from an email: So here's my suggestion of what John should do TODAY, or in the alternative, what he should do for a few minutes AFTER he is finished doing whatever the bloggers vote for EVERY day:
Figure out WHO (WHOM?) on Raum Emanuel's staff he could work with to set up such a Clearinghouse...somebody needs to let them know how much capital they have in terms of all the people who are just champing at the bit to help, and figure out a way to harness that power and get it done!
I realize my nomination for what John should do today doesn't quite fit in with other suggestions (one of these things is not like the others, one of these things is just not the same)...but I figure most of the stuff we're having him do only take a few minutes and that leaves a lot of time for doing a more long-range project...helping to fix America.
susan's suggestions are fantastic...definitely need to be included on future lists.
as for the rahm emanuel suggestion, it's brilliant and daunting, especially since i'm very self-conscious and insecure when dealing with tiny little dictators. but i'm determined to do something to move things in a better direction, so this is a good reminder. do you think they'd mind if i volunteered with a snorkel and a curly wig?
AHA! I think I may have figured out to do this blogging thing! I'm so technologically impaired. I also vote for Susan's suggestion to snorkel at the Y, lol.
I didn't know Raum was a little dictator?? I loved him on Charlie Rose and also loved Josh Lyman's character, who was apparently inspired by him.
And sorry John, but you MUST do your spanish homework tomorrow. Anyway, I also like the idea of asking somebody for a taste of their food in a restaurant.
John retired this summer after lawyering for 18 years at the Water Authority. Now, after spending his career doing what other people told him to do, he needs help filling his days. So cast your votes and submit your suggestions and let's make John's golden years shine!
